Mental health presentationsHistory of Meta Motivation
Meta Motivation was a term originally coined by psychologist, Abraham Maslow (in 1943) when he published his theory on human motivation. Maslow identified five human needs, which he named: basic, safety, social, esteem and self-actualization (or personal growth). He claimed that all five human needs were required for an individual to reach their full potential. Reaching self-actualization was achieved through a ‘meta’ motivation towards excellence, whereby individuals are free to be themselves, explore their potential and create a fulfilling life. Many individuals are still moving towards self-actualization through personal growth to reach and maximise, their own potential.
In the Buddhist philosophy “Metta” is known as loving–kindness, good will and benevolence to others. In the Theravadin Buddhist tradition, this practice begins with the meditator cultivating loving-kindness towards themselves, to loved ones and then to all beings. "Compassion meditation" is a contemporary scientific field that demonstrates the efficacy of metta and related meditative practices.
My mission is to invite individuals to find a higher order of motivation to be able to make positive, effective and sustainable changes in their lives. To do this requires the highest level of intervention, support and encouragement to individuals who are experiencing psychological trauma as a result of any type of disturbing and distressing life situation or event. My approach is to apply complex, theoretically based interventions, to ensure best practice standards, in very plain and easy to understand language.
Private counselling
This is an exclusive and private counselling service specifically designed for discerning individuals in our community. Each appointment is specifically tailored to the individual with no information provided to any other party, and as such there are no rebates for my services. I am under no legal obligation to disclose an individual’s health issues to Medicare or any subsequent insurance company.
Management initiated counselling
This concept is designed to support and maintain senior and highly valued staff. I provide a summary report to management. Fully informed consent is obtained by the client prior to any psychological intervention and/or treatment, with the knowledge that a summary report is provided to management. This summary report is also discussed with the client before being forwarded to management.
Mental health presentations
Complex psychological concepts are presented in an easy to understand format. These presentations have been designed to target a wide range of staff members. The rationale behind these presentations is to demystify psychology and help staff to recognise how to help themselves or their co-workers and when to seek professional help. Tailored programs can be designed specific to client needs.
